It’s time for another coffee creamer recipe! We’ve shared our delicious mocha creamer, so we thought we’d provide the most basic recipe next: Vanilla! Stay tuned for fall flavors coming soon!
If you take a look at most homemade coffee creamer recipes, you’ll see the use of sweetened condensed milk to get that signature thick sweetness. A single tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk contains 61 calories and 10.4 grams of sugar. While this might still be a better option than the highly processed coffee creamers on the market, if you were to use 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk in your morning coffee, you’d be just about at your max daily allowance as recommended by the World Health Organization. That definitely doesn’t leave room for dessert!
Here’s a quick look at two different vanilla flavored coffee creamers. We all know Trader Joe’s is often considered a “health food store,” but just because they have a wide variety of interesting foods, does NOT mean their processed foods are healthy!
filtered water, organic cane sugar, soybean oil and/or sunflower oil and/or safflower oil, sodium caseinate, dipotassium phosphate, soy lecithin, mono and diglycerides, natural vanilla flavor, titanium dioxide, natural flavor, carrageenan.
And of course, the leading coffee creamer brand in the country: Coffee Mate.
WATER, SUGAR, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, AND LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE)**, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CELLULOSE GEL, CELLULOSE GUM, COLOR ADDED, CARRAGEENAN.
Let’s just make a note here: neither of these creamers actually contains any cream! They use casein, which is a milk protein, but no actual milk!
At Get Fresh San Diego, we take the guesswork out of healthy eating, to help you easily eat much healthier all day long! This is our much healthier recipe for fresh homemade vanilla coffee creamer. You’ll be happy to know that one tablespoon contains just 0.6g of sugar.
Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer GetFreshSD
You’re more than welcome to increase the amount of sweetener in your homemade version to get your sugar fix, but be sure to use maple syrup or honey. It will still be a healthier option, free of all those additives and preservatives. If you’re dairy-free, we recommend thick coconut milk or thick homemade almond milk. You can also use vanilla bean paste or fresh vanilla beans, but we wanted to keep this super simple for ya! Enjoy!
